GoodFellas Golf League Rules
DATES: Thursday of each week, beginning April 25, 2024 (weather permitting). PLACE: Hilltop Golf Course. 47000 Powell Rd. Plymouth, MI 48170 734.453.9800 Alternate 2 - 9 hole courses every week.
A. MEMBERSHIP1. Limit is 16persons allowed by Hilltop GC (see section K, Blind Golfer).2. League is divided into 2 flights: A,B.3. Dues are $445.00 for 16 weeks of golf with cart.4. Outing is TBD.5. Should a regular member have to quit prior to the season starting or once the league has started, an attempt will be made to replace that member. Should a replacement be found after league play has started, only the cost of golf (excluding prize fee, expenses and secretary fee ) will be prorated and refunded to the member that has given up their spot.6. Should said member quit before the league starts and a replacement is found a full refund will be given. 7. If the member that dropped out wishes to return the following season, they will have to wait until a spot opens up on the roster or be placed on the sub list.
B. SCHEDULE1. There will be 16 weeks of scheduled league matches. The 8th and16th weeks are position nights.There will be no league play on Thursday, July4th. 2024 due to the Fourth of July Holiday week. League play resumes on July 11, 2024.2. Tee times begin at 4:30 .3. Rainouts will extend the schedule.
C. HANDICAPS 1. All flights: 75% Handicap of difference in averages.

2. AVERAGES Averages will be computed weekly. Last year's overall season average will be used to start the season for returning members. New members will begin with an average from another league or the honor system (if they haven't played in a league last season).Weekly averages are calculated by taking your last 5 scores, drop the high and low score and average the 3 in the middle.
D. SCORING There will be a total of 22 points scored for each match.1. Two (2) points per hole (18 points for 9 holes Match Play).2. Four (4) points for total Low Net Score (Medal Play).3. Your Score card AND the Point sheet must be completed and submitted after golfweekly. If your point sheet and scorecard are not turned in (lost), you and your opponent will split the points (9 each) and lose the medal points. If you can’t stay – give the scorecard and point sheet to the next foursome in or another league member. As a last resort, give it to one of the Hilltop GC employees in the clubhouse to give to the league secretary.4. The first foursome out on each side is responsible for placing the closest to the pin proximity markers on the par 3’s. The last foursome picks them up and brings the closest to the pin sheets in.The first person in each foursome to arrive will pick up their scorecard and point sheet. They are responsible for finding members of their foursome. The “check in” table will be closed at 4:15. If you wish to get into closest to the pin or skins, arrive before 4:15.All league members have the responsibility to know in advance the following: their tee time, what 9 they are playing, who their opponent is. All this information is available on the league website. I urge you to access the website and bookmark it. 5. Cell phones. Be courteous to your group. There is no reason to be talking on the tee box when it’s your turn to hit. Talk when you’re walking to your ball up the fairway, driving to the next tee. Just play ready golf and be courteous to your group. 6. The maximum number of stokes for scoring isdouble the par for the hole you are playing (applies to all flights).If you feel that you are at or real close to double par, ask your opponent what he/she is laying. If there's no possible way to win or tie the hole, announce to your opponent that you are invoking the double par rule. Handicap for that hole is in effect for totals only. If you and your opponent finish at double par, split the 2 points for the hole and move on to the next hole regardless of handicap stroke. That handicap stroke will be counted for totals. EXAMPLE: If I am laying on the fringe with an 8 (on a par 4) and my opponent putts out for an 8 and I get a handicap stroke on that hole I don’t win the hole. (Forget the handicap only for that hole) We both get a point.That particular handicap stroke will be counted for totals.
7. There is 1 mulligan allowed off the first tee only for all flights. If you choose a mulligan, you have to declare it, play it, and count the mulligan.8. Players will tee off the white (middle) tees. If you are 70 years old or older, you may tee off the most forward (red) tees if you desire.
E. MATCHES1. All matches are to be played as scheduled. There are no open nights on the schedule.
2. If a match is played earlier than our normal league start time, the score counts and the score that is recorded for each hole counts as “league play”. If you wish to golf again with the league (as your opponent had to leave after your early match), AND you wish to play skins, your score for each hole and totals still stand from your already completed match. You may play closest to the pin on your second round if you choose to do so.
F. ABSENT If you will be absent, I will find a sub to fill your spot – just let me know that you need a sub. If you get your own sub, let me know who it is. Look at the sub list on the website. The substitute score will not count, but it is important to keep pacing correct and to keep the match enjoyable. In addition, sub fees pay for extra benefits at the end of the season, such as additional prizes at the outing. If you know of someone that would like to sub, I will need their name, address, phone number and email address. 1. If a person is absent his opponent will play against the card (“prorated chart”), regular night or position night. A two (2) stroke penalty will be added to the absent person's average. Hole scores and handicap for the absent person are determined based on a score 2 strokes over their current average.2. The absent person forfeit's the four (4) Medal Play points. 3. Please record the substitute score on your scorecard. The sub’s score doesn’t count so the sub cannot “win” any points. All subs scores will be kept on record. Should any of these subs decide to play in our annual outing or join our league, the sub's league average will be used for handicap purposes.
G. TARDY MATCHES
1. IF A PERSON SHOWS UP LATE FOR A MATCH, the player will walk (or ride) to his/ her respective match opponents, omitting the missed holes. The tardy players scorefor the missed holes will be entered from the “prorated” chart according to theiraverage plus two (2) strokes for each hole missed. 2 IF A PLAYER LEAVES BEFORE HIS MATCH IS COMPLETED, the players score for the missed holes will be entered from the “prorated” chart according to their average, and forfeit the 4 Medal Points (match points).
3. IF A FOURSOME IS NOT COMPLETE AT THEIR SCHEDULED TEE-OFF TIME, the league secretary has the option to switch them to a later starting time in order to maintain the tee-off schedule. Please “check in” with me in the clubhouse.
H. RAINED OUT MATCHES
RAINOUTS WILL BE CALLED AT THE COURSE unless Hilltop GC notifies the Secretary in advance. Call the course,(734) 453-9800,1-2 PM. if necessary.
1. IF LESS THAN 5 HOLES HAVE BEEN PLAYED by the entire league and all flights, the match is void and will be rescheduled the following week.2. IF 5 OR MORE HOLES HAVE BEEN PLAYED, by the entire league, the match will be complete. Secretary will match cards for the remaining holes using pre-determined default scores (prorated chart) for the rained out holes.
I. Just to clarify a few rules of golf……
We are playing out of the sand traps. REMEMBER TO RAKE THE TRAP AFTER HITTING AND LEAVE THE RAKE BY THE SIDE OF THE SANDTRAP. You cannot improve your lie when in the sand. This will be in effect for the whole season including the outing, wherever it may be. If there is standing water in the trap, you are allowed to pull the ball from the trap and are given a free drop no closer to the hole. Per Hilltop GC, the fence lines are out of bounds.OUR league rules are that if you hit the ball out of bounds off the tee, you can re-tee the ball and takethe stroke penalty (you are shooting your 3rd. shot off the tee) OR……You can go to the spot where the ball went out, drop your ball no closer to the hole, along the line of flight, take the stroke penalty (you are shooting your 3rd shot from where you dropped).
If your ball is against the fence on the course side, you are not out of bounds, you get 2 club lengths relief laterally, drop no closer to the hole, no penalty. If you hit off the tee and you ball goes into the water, you may re-tee the ball and take the stroke penalty (you are shooting your 3rd shot off the tee) OR…Walk to the spot where the ball went in, drop your ball on the side of the pond no closer to the hole, take the stroke penalty (you are shooting 3 from where you dropped). ALL Flights- A& B play winter rules, meaning you can improve your lie where ever the ball lands except in a hazard (sand trap, water hazard, behind a tree.) Improving your lie means you can move it with your club within a square foot of where it lands on the fairway or rough. It is your choice to improve your lie or not. You cannot “improve you lie” to get yourself out of or away from a hazard or rough.
If you land in ground under repair, you can move the ball, laterally, no closer to the hole, without a penalty stroke. If your ball comes to rest under or up against or real close to a manmade object that has been placed on the course, like a bench or a ball washer, wood fence, you can move the ball laterally, but no closer to the hole, and there’s no penalty.
If your ball comes to rest on a cart path or in standing water move your ball laterally onto the grass, no closer to the hole, no penalty.
There is 2-minute limit (per Hilltop GC management) to look for a lost ball. If you cannot find your ball within that time, it is a lost ball. PUTTING
When putting, you can elect to leave the pin in the hole without penalty.There are no Gimmie puts allowed when putting for Eagle, Birdie or Par. Bogie or above gimmie putts are within the leather of you putter and the gimmie is counted.
If you land under or against a tree and can’t hit it out and you have to take a drop, it’s a 1-stroke penalty. The drop is along the line of flight and no closer to the hole.
A “whiff” is counted as a stroke.If you intentionallyswing at the ball and fail to make contact with the golf ball, that's a whiff. A practice swing or two prior to addressing the ball is NOT a whiff. If your club comes in contact with your ball during a practice swing and the ball moves (I’ve seen it happen) it is not a “whiff”,
PER Hilltop GC MANAGEMENT: There is a SIREN for dangerous weather. Should we encounter dangerous weather (ex. lightning etc.), all golfers should head back to the clubhouse until all clear. DO NOT CONTINUE TO PLAY until the weather passes.
J. OUTING GUESTS
1. All outing guests must have either been: • a former member of our league, or subbed in our league in the past • a current year sub that played as a sub at least two times in the current season. • Proof of average from a current year league sheet. If you have someone in mind that you would like to play in the outing, have them sub in our league and turn in their scorecard to me after the match. Subs are needed every week.
K. Blind Golfer Should the league be unable to fill all 16 spots, a “blind” spot will be created in the affected flights. That blind golfer will carry an average that is established by the averages of all the members of that particular flight. The blind golfers average changes with the averages of the flight. The blind golfers scores are then prorated off the sheet, handicaps are given per the handicap rule. The blind golfers opponent plays against the card.The blind golfer automatically loses the 4 match points and those 4 points go to the blind golfers opponent.
L. Disputes If there is a scoring dispute between opponents on the course and the two opponents cannot resolve it in a civil manner at the time, bring the dispute to me after golf. The decision on the matter is final and scoring / points for that hole will be done accordingly.
M. Play Ready Golf. Hilltop GC has asked us to play “Ready Golf”. See webpage “Ready Golf”. Proper pace of play for 9 holes is 2:15 (that is 15min. per hole). If pace of play goes beyond 2:30 there’s a problem. The rules of “Ready Golf” has a page on our website. Please read and follow. Guys, locate your ball, select your club, line up your shot, 1 or 2 practice swings step up and take your shot. We have to eliminate 4-5 practice swings, then get behind your ball to line up, then 2-3 more practice swings, etc. This just eats up a lot of time. See below.
N. Pace of play (per Hilltop GC) Pace of play is 2:15 for nine holes. It is our belief (Hilltop GC) that 2:30 is the point at which pace becomes extremely unacceptable and more than "just a bad round". PLAY READY GOLF!
O. FUN League This is a fun league. Let’s all try to keep it that way.You might be having a bad game, your opponent might be having a bad game. You might be playing with a sub who is having a bad game or is a lesser experienced golfer. There is no room for verbal abuse. There is no room for throwing clubs in anger or ruining greens or tee boxes. We’re all adults and golf is a gentlemen’s game – act like one.This is why this league was created and why you were invited to join.
